September 14: Copa do Brasil and Supercopa Rei rights will be shared by Globo, ESPN and Amazon Prime Video for the next four-year cycle, in what the CBF calls “the biggest rights deal in the history of Brazilian football.”
From 2027 to 2030, the three broadcasters will collectively pay up to $1.08 billion ($211.4 million) a year, more than BR4 billion over the entire contract. Globo took the free-to-air package of at least 14 domestic games and a pay-TV package, while Amazon and ESPN split another pay-TV package. The agreement also covers the Supercopa Rei from 2028 to 2031.
The headline figure is an 80% increase over Globo’s previous exclusive deal, and the CBF attributes this to smarter strategy. For the first time, it centralized the sale of rights, spread the marquee games into different slots to avoid clashes and, above all, brought production in-house so that all 157 games a year were broadcast.
In 2026, when Globo produced its own games, up to 55 matches from the first round were simply not shown. Now every game is produced and offered to members.
The president of the CBF, Samir Xaud, described it as “a historic moment”, and added: “The most important result is that this new model significantly increases the presence of the competition on live television. We will practically double the number of broadcasts on open television, bringing more games to fans, for free.”
