JJ McCarthy made his Giants debut on the team’s first offensive possession in Washington.
McCarthy came off the bench one play after Jameis Winston converted a third-and-13 with a 15-yard pass to tight end Isaiah Likely. He threw a pass to wide receiver Darnell Mooney that went for a five-yard loss, though the Giants ended up going ahead thanks to a masking penalty.
Winston returned the game on the next play, and the Giants ended up trying a 50-yard field goal shortly after.
Dominic Zvada missed the kick and the Commanders still led 6-0 with 7:11 to play in the first quarter.
