Josh King then tested Hornicek as the teams went into half-time level.
Fulham
Newcastle
The second half remained closely contested, with Sander Berge dragging an effort wide before Wissa hit the side netting from a tight angle.
Newcastle finally broke through in the 80th minute when Murphy intercepted Berge’s errant pass, cut inside Calvin Bassey and curled a superb left-footed effort into the top corner.
However, Fulham responded almost immediately.
César Palacios sent in a cross from the left in the 83rd minute, and substitute Muniz reacted faster to turn the ball over.
Both goalkeepers produced excellent late saves, with Leno denying Lewis Hall before Hornicek brilliantly turned away Ryan Sessegnon’s powerful shot in stoppage time.
