Everyone has accidentally butchered someone’s name at one point or another.
But usually that name is not “Gary”, and normally that person is not a professional athlete. But on the last episode of GOLF Subpar Podcast, Former NHL star Brenden Morrow recalled once playing at TPC Craig Ranch with Subpar co-host Colt Knost and Gary Woodland, and they spend the whole day calling Woodland “Jerry”.
“I can read (his bag),” Morrow told Knost and Drew Stoltz as he began to recall the story. “I think his name was Gary. I’m going to die I heard one of you Jack—-s call Jerry. Then I say, ‘Who am I?’ It’s written right on his bag, “Gary.” But whatever, maybe his parents did. So I started calling him Jerry all the time. He probably should have corrected me. He didn’t. So, he got into my car. I took her to the North Park Mall. His now wife, girlfriend at the time, Gabby, (she was there), left him. ‘Hey Jerry, he had a hell of a time. I’ll catch you later. Still, no one corrected me all day. So he is still known as Jerry Woodland.
Morrow and Woodland also made a hefty bet at the time, betting $10,000 on whether Morrow would win the Stanley Cup before Woodland won a major. Morrow lost in the Stanley Cup Finals as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning in his final professional season in 2015. Four years later, Woodland won the 2019 US Open at Pebble Beach.
Morrow hasn’t paid yet, but hopes to host Woodland for a guest-member instead of shelling out more than $10K.
