USA Women’s Eagles boss Jack Hanratty has named his face team Wales at Cardiff Arms Park in their second match of the WXV Global Series.
After the beating Ireland in a 40-36 win at Tallaght Stadium, the now sixth-placed side have to contend with an eleventh-placed Wales side looking to go through after an eight-try 50-19 win over South Africa.
Hanratty made small adjustments to his starting XV, with Nina Mason starting at half-back after making her US debut off the bench against Ireland, Bella Vogel moving to inside center, Emily Henrich shifting to outside center and Katana Howard named on the bench.
Prop Hope Rogers and whore Kathryn Treder, who scored three tries between them against Ireland, joined Keia Mae Sagapolu-Senele in the front row.
Hallie Taufoou and Rachel Ehrecke partner in the second row.
Co-captain Georgie Perris-Redding will once again lead the pack, joined in the back row by Hann Humphreys and last week’s man of the match Fred Tafun.
Erica Coulibaly, Telesi Uhatafe and Kayla Canett form the USA’s back three, with Emily Henrich and Bella Vogel combining in the midfield and Nina Mason and Abigail Paton forming the halfback partnership.
Second USA co-captain Erica Jarrell-Searcy is on the bench, along with Chloe Hill-Huse, Alivia Leatherman, Reece Wood, Kapoina Bailey, Cassidy Bargell, Katana Howard and Tessa Hann.
Ahead of the clash against Sean Lynn’s side, USA head coach Jack Hanratty said: “A win can be huge for a group and even though we’ve been in a battle, the energy from (last week) has been buoyant. Not just because of the win but because of the potential.
“We have the opportunity to make it three international victories in a row, which is no easy feat, but this is a real challenge.
“Wales showed tremendous dominance and looked like they had a new DNA when they played South Africa last weekend – who are the team we’ve had a real run-in with this summer. A quick six-day turnaround for us versus eight days for Wales is huge in the build-up, so we have to get it right this week.”
