Devin Carter reached an agreement with Art Celtics and will compete for a roster spot or two-way opening in training camp, league sources tell HoopsHype’s Michael Scott (Link to Twitter). It will be an Exhibition 10 contract, a team source confirms MassLive’s Brian Robb.
The 24-year-old point guard was refused On Friday, the Hawks acquired him and a 2033 second-round pick from Sacramento in late June. The Kings cut costs to move on from a 2024 first-round pick, but Carter was considered far from a possibility to make the roster in Atlanta.
His chances should be better with the Celtics, who currently have 14 players under standard contracts and two under two-way contracts. He will be competing with newcomers Milos Uzan and Tucker DeVrieswho will also be in camp on Exhibit 10 deals and both played for the Boston Summer League team. Other players could also be considered, as the Celtics will still have a couple of roster vacancies after the Carter deal is completed.
Boston was first mentioned as an opportunity for Carter on Friday, shortly after his release was announced. He was a college star at nearby Providence, where he was named Big East Player of the Year in 2024.
Carter was selected 13th overall in the 2024 draft, but his NBA debut was delayed due to surgery on his left shoulder. He also dealt with ankle, back and shin problems during his second season in 2025/26. In two years with the Kings, he played in just 74 regular season games, averaging 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 14.8 minutes per contest, shooting .401/.274/.674.
With only two years of NBA experience, Carter is still eligible for a two-way contract. His $5,158,080 salary is fully guaranteed this season, though the Hawks declined a $7,370,897 option for the final year of his rookie contract before releasing him.
