Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has defended Jayden Bogle after his challenge at Mathys Tel on Saturday 1-0 win at Tottenhaminsisting the defender had no intention of harming the Spurs forwards.
Bogle came under scrutiny after a collision with Tel left the Tottenham player injured, but Farke was quick to dismiss suggestions his defender had acted maliciously.
The Leeds boss described Bogle as one of the gentlest players in the Premier League, revealing he affectionately refers to him as his “butterfly”.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Farke was asked about Bogle’s involvement in the incident that left Tel injured.
“I haven’t looked back. I heard there were several questionable situations. A possible handball,” Farke said.
“I just know that Jayden Bogle for bad intent. It looked like a meeting.
“It’s a very unfortunate result that Mathys is injured and we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery,” he added.
“The last thing Jayden Bogle is a nasty player. He’s possibly the smoothest player in the entire league.”
The Leeds manager then revealed the nickname he has given the defender, insisting it reflects his personality.
“I always call her my butterfly, and I can guarantee it was never with bad intent.”
Leeds boss hails Tottenham ‘thoroughly deserved’ win
Despite the controversy surrounding Bogle’s challenge, Farke was delighted with his side’s performance as Leeds secured all three points against Tottenham.
“We were pushing to win this game and we were relentless,” Farke said.
“We showed great spirit, commitment and unity. It was a well-deserved victory.”
