7 October – Charlton Athletic have signed a formal partnership with MBST Health UK, extending a collaboration focused on player recovery and clinical research.
MBST is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-energy magnetic resonance imaging. The Championship club first introduced him to their sports medicine program in 2024-25. After a trial period, the deal now continues through this season.
Charlton’s medical staff will continue to use MBST in the treatment and recovery of players. The club will also take part in a structured research project looking at how technology affects recovery from musculoskeletal injuries and how long it takes players to return.
“As the physical demands of professional football continue to increase, maintaining player availability is critical,” said Adam Coe, Charlton’s head of medicine.
“MBST complements our evidence-based approach and is used as part of our wider rehabilitation programs to support injury recovery and return-to-play timelines. We are already seeing promising results, with players benefiting from this exciting technology.”
Liz Clare, CEO of MBST UK, said: “Formalizing our partnership with Charlton Athletic is a great moment for MBST and a testament to the impact of our technology. The club’s commitment to player wellbeing and innovation makes it an ideal partner for our research. Together, we are gaining insights that will help push the boundaries of sports medicine.”
The research element is what separates this from a standard provider agreement. MBST gets a professional club environment and real injury data to back up its claims. Charlton gets the treatment and a role in the study.
Player availability has become a major concern in the game as the fixture list has grown. For a Championship club with a smaller squad than the top teams in the division, keeping players fit and returning them quickly can make all the difference during a busy 46-game season.
