Last May, the highly anticipated clash between Origin El Grande Americano and El Grande Americano took place at AAA Noche de Los Grandes in the Mask vs. to a standing ovation from the crowd in attendance. After failing to pick up the win, The Original El Grande Americano revealed himself to be Chad Gable, beginning the Olympian’s final babyface run and leading to win the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam. Tonight, Gable returns to Mexico when WWE Raw takes place from Arena CDMX, and new post on Instagramhe promised to repay the fans for their support title defense against Dragon Lee.
“On May 30, I received something from the Mexican people that I will never forget. Tonight is my first time back as champion. And I’m going to return the favor. I will be defending the Intercontinental Title on RAW in Mexico City for the first time ever. See you tonight, friends.”
So far at AAA Noche de Los Grandes, “Mask vs. Mask” competition is widely considered to be one of the best matches of the year. While Gable returned to Raw, El Grande Americano, formerly known as Ludwig Kaiser, continued to wrestle in Mexico and simply became the AAA Mega Champion this past weekend when he defeated Dominic Mysterio for the title at TripleMania 34.
Gable held the Intercontinental Championship for 43 days and has only one successful title defense to date, which went up against Rey Mysterio on Raw. However, Gable does not have a short list of opponents, as Ethan Page and Judgment Day continued to target the champion in the weeks leading up to his match against Lee.
