The Celtics signed a contract with the guard as a free agent Caleb Grill to a training camp contract, according to Paul Garcia of The Spot Up Shot (Link to Twitter). Grillo’s deal includes an Addendum 10 wording so he can earn a bonus for playing for Boston’s G League affiliate in Maine.
Grill, who played a pair of exhibition games in China last month representing the United G League, went undrafted out of Missouri in 2025 and signed an Annex 10 deal with Chicago last fall before being waived until the start of 2025/26.
The 6-foot-3 guard, who also played at Iowa State and UNLV before finishing his college career at Missouri, had a breakout 2024-25 season for the Tigers, winning the SEC Sixth Man of the Year with 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 26.2 minutes per contest, with an excellent shooting game. line of .472/.396/.864.
Grill spent last season in the G League with the Windy City Bulls and the Greensboro Swarm, Charlotte’s affiliate. In 41 total contests, 33 of which came with the Windy City, he averaged 9.9 mpg, 3.1 mpg and 1.1 mpg at 22.5 mpg with a .431/.387/.857 line.
The 26-year-old could earn a bonus worth up to $91,000 if Boston waives him and spends at least 60 days with the Maine Celtics. The Exhibit 10 trade could also be converted into a two-way contract, and the Celtics have one two-way opening.
