Manchester United Manager Michael Carrick believes his side did enough to beat Fulham despite being held to a 1-1 draw in Premier League.
United created a number of chances but could not find the winning goal, but Carrick was pleased by the reaction of his players after Fulham went ahead.
“I thought we should have won the game, I thought we created enough to win the game,” Carrick told Sky Sports.
“The goal we conceded is one of them. The lads might have thought it was one of those days but I really like the reaction.
“In the end we almost won it. We came to get the win, of course, the way it went and the way we finished is the positive we take from it.”
Fulham goalkeeper frustrates United
Carrick believes Fulham’s Bernd Leno was the main reason United failed to take the three points.
The visitors hit the woodwork twice and created several more chances, but the keeper made several important saves to keep the scores level.
“I think probably his goalkeeper really. The saves he made today, he probably made three main saves,” Carrick said.
“We hit the post twice and had a lot of chances. Of course we’re not happy we didn’t win the game, but there are things to take from it for sure.
“Football is a difficult game. We controlled a lot of the first half. It’s the Premier League and you’re going to have moments when you don’t have it your way.”
“To expect complete dominance for the whole game, I don’t think anyone can achieve that in this league.”
Carrick sees positives despite dropped points
Although United fell short of all three points, Carrick was pleased with the energy shown by his players and believes there are plenty of positives to take from the performance.
“Yeah,” Carrick said when asked if he was happy with the energy in the team.
“I think we can take a lot from today, I think we can learn a lot as well.
“We can be better at certain things, that’s pretty clear, but there are good signs today.”
