Real Madrid striker Carlos Espi has received his first senior Spain summoned after being incorporated into Luis de la Fuente’s squad for the remainder League of Nations accessories
Espi had initially been out with Spain’s under-21 side but has now been promoted to the senior side following the injury to Ferran Torres.
Espi joins Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen’s squad, while Marc Cucurella has also been selected by De la Fuente.
Five goals from Spain under-21
Espi’s promotion comes immediately after an extraordinary performance by Spain’s Under-21 side during qualifying for the 2027 European Under-21 Championship.
The forward scored five goals as Spain demolished San Marino 13-0 on Wednesday.
His five-goal haul further strengthened his case for senior recognition, and De la Fuente has now moved quickly to incorporate the striker into his squad following Torres’ withdrawal.
Espi could make his senior debut when Spain host the Czech Republic in Oviedo on Saturday 3 October.
De la Fuente’s side will travel to Croatia for their final match of the international break in Split on Tuesday 6 October.
