Harlequins Jonny Green in the second row left the club immediately to join Cardiff, filling the vacancy created the day before by George Nott’s decision to retire.
The 22-year-old Welsh qualifier leaves the Stoop after 30 appearances, having come through Quins’ age system before a loan spell with London Scottish and Chinnor.
Zeleni, a Wales The U20 international himself will move to Cardiff as they look to bolster their second-row options ahead of Nott’s departure at the end of December.
Cardiff confirmed on Monday that Nott, 30, will call time on his playing career next month to take up a role in medical sales. Head coach Corniel van Zyl said the club is already active in the transfer market.
Green’s arrival gives the Wales region an immediate solution and also offers the 124kg forward the chance to pursue his international ambitions there.
“Jonny has been a valued part of our team and a product of our academy pathway,” said Harlequins head coach Jason Gilmore.
“And last season he stepped up during difficult times for us and we wish him all the best in this next chapter of his career.
“Competition in our second row and wider squad is increasing and we respect Jonny’s desire to take up the opportunity in Wales, for which he qualifies at international level.”
Green added: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Quins. Obviously, I’ve been at the club since I was 15 – it’s been a big part of my journey and development.
“Now I feel the time is right to realize my ambitions in Wales and Cardiff is a huge opportunity which I am excited about.”
Nott will remain at Cardiff’s disposal throughout December before ending a decade-long career which has included spells with Sale sharks, London Irish and Dragons.
