The history of the Chicago Bears is defined by terrific quarterback play, with Sid Luckman – who began his career in the 1930s – still considered the greatest QB in franchise history. Luckman had a good run, but he won’t hold onto that title for long. Caleb Williams is the QB Bears fans have been waiting for for generations, and he got off to a fast start in his third pro season in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers.
Williams made his first run of the season against A Rush to the end zone. The Bears scored another touchdown on D’Andre Swift’s one-yard run. After a Carolina punt, Chicago got the ball back and it only took them two plays to get back into the end zone again.
After running back Kyle Monangay returned for a 22-yard check to start the drive, Williams dropped back to pass and fired a perfect dime to stop for a 22-yard touchdown strike. The Panthers had a punt, but Williams put the ball on the money where only the receiver could handle it. It’s hard to throw a better football than this. Watch Williams’ first touchdown pass of 2026 here:
What a throw away. This could easily be a hack if he is tipped over or knocked down. Instead, it’s six more points for the Bears.
The Bears’ offense looks fantastic. It should be because Chicago’s defense could be one of the worst in the league this year.
The Bears have always had a good defense and bad offense. The script has been flipped this year. Ben Johnson said his offense was looking to break the NFL’s all-time scoring record coming into the season, and the Bears appear to have the ability to do just that. Williams will be primed for a monster season, and he’ll have all the incentive he needs to put up points with a blistering defense behind him.
