The Broncos offense was extremely bad for most of Thursday night’s game. They beat the Seahawks anyway.
Over Denver’s final 10 possessions — two in the second quarter, three in the third quarter, four in the fourth quarter and one in overtime — the Broncos’ offense totaled 32 yards. Seven of those 10 possessions ended in goals, two ended with the end of the first and second half, and the one in overtime started in field goal range and ended with the game-winning goal.
Broncos quarterback Bo Nix couldn’t get the offense going at all: He carried the ball 27 times for 107 yards, was sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards and had four rushes for two yards. Add it all up, and in 33 plays, Nix managed 96 yards. That’s 2.9 meters per game. Usually, you can’t win in the NFL when your quarterback plays like this.
Fortunately for the Broncos, the Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold also pitched a losing game. Darnold’s overtime shutout did something Nix couldn’t: It put the Broncos in position to win.
