Among the reasons the Cowboys lost 28-20 to the Giants in Week 1 were a pair of dropped passes by wide receiver George Pickens.
Both touchdowns came in the first half and the second came just before halftime on a pass that would have helped put the Cowboys in position to break a 7-7 tie. Dak Prescott threw an interception a few plays later and the Giants turned it into a 14-7 halftime lead.
On Wednesday, coach Brian Schottenheimer was asked if he talked to Pickens about the games. Schottenheimer said he didn’t feel the need because it wasn’t typical of the wideout’s usual efforts.
“I don’t say anything to George. George is going to be fine,” Schottenheimer said. “He’ll usually catch the ball coming down the sideline and maybe run it, then jump over people and spin and then jump into the end zone. So I’m not worried about George.”
Pickens said he understands the need to get things in order before this week’s game against the Commanders.
“It’s definitely urgent because it’s (another) division game, like the Giants were,” Pickens said, via the team’s website. “We definitely you have to nail it Our P’s and Q’s. I think that’s the mindset that people are reinforcing right now.”
Pickens can’t help a defense that failed against the Giants, but holding the ball can lead to more points that make it easier for players on that side of the ball.
