The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was announced UFC 332Last weekend’s main event, announcing it Natalia Silva collide Wang Cong for vacant women’s flyweight title on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
It is safe to say that the announcement was not exactly universally praised.
Fans immediately criticized the promotion for making Silva vs. Wang was chosen to headline the numbered event, especially with the former flyweight champion. Deiveson Figueiredo, faced with a growing prospect, Payton Talbottin an equally horrifying main event.
but hey we wanted UFC pay-per-view (PPV) to go awayright?
Former UFC heavyweight podcaster, Brendan Schaubbelieves UFC 332 represents a potential downside to the promotion’s new distribution model. With fans already paying for Paramount+ instead of buying individual events, Schaub argued that the UFC no longer feels the same pressure to load established stars onto each numbered card.
“It’s like the UFC got the ball on the one-yard line and then said, ‘Kk it!'” and gave up, Schaub said. Big brown distribution. “Everybody was ready for it to be a blowout card. The undercard is fantastic, but then they gave us this. In hindsight, PPV is no longer great for us in America, but it’s a byproduct. They already have our money and they don’t have to sell us on the card. That’s the downside.”
Schaub then turned his attention to UFC matchmakers, asking how Silva vs. Wang was billed as the main eventer of the airing numbered card. CBS and Paramount+.
“I just want to know who was like, ‘I’ve got this!’ Natalia Silva vs. Wang Cong! Schaub said. “Did everybody in the room say, ‘That’s sick!’? Because if they did, you all should be out of a job. It’s so frustrating that it’s the main event and the UFC is like, ‘You’re not doing it.’ There should be some kind of response. If I was in Utah, I wouldn’t have paid for it.”
Schaub saved his harshest criticism for Wang, who has never headlined a UFC event before and has only competed in the Octagon five times.
“This is hands down — and I’m not exaggerating — the worst main event in MMA history,” Schaub said. “Wang Cong should never headline a card or fight for the title.”
Okay, Schaub can go a little overboard.
There is certainly an argument that Silva vs. Wang is one of the weaker numbered event headliners in modern UFC history, especially when it comes to mainstream name recognition. However, describing it as the worst main event in all of MMA history seems like a stretch.
Silva is undeniably worthy of a championship opportunity. The Brazilian is 8-0 in the UFC, has won a total of 14 consecutive fights and has wins over three former champions: Rose in Namajuna, Alexa Grasso and Jessica Andrade. Wang, meanwhile, has won four in a row since his only career loss.
The rest of UFC 332 is considerably stronger and includes King Green vs. Esteban Ribovics, Chaos Williams vs. Roberto Soldic, Ateba Gautier vs. Roman Kopylov and Johnny Walker’s Heavyweight debut vs Mick Parkin.
Perhaps more importantly, the UFC went through most of its first year on Paramount+ without producing a truly awful number of main events — probably because UFC Freedom 250 absorbed so much elite talent a year earlier.
Uneven cards may just be part of the trade-off for killing the PPV model.
Oh well… we’re all still watching and we should probably get used to it.
