Sunday’s game was a defensive battle against the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles. So when Nick Siriani sent Braden Mann and the rest of Philadelphia’s punt team into the game with less than 30 seconds left in the first half, leading 8-6 but deep in their own territory, Siriani was probably trying to get the defense into better field position.
Mann didn’t expect the Giants to be pinned inside New York’s own 10-yard line.
But that’s exactly what happened, when Mann booted an 86-yard punt that rolled out of bounds at the Giants’ 6-yard line:
The giant punt sent Fox Sports announcer Joe Davis into a frenzy.
Surprisingly, it doesn’t even crack ten!
According to Pro Football Reference, it remains the longest streak in NFL history This is a growing 98-yard punt Steve O’Neal of the New York Jets, 1969. Sean McCarthy’s 92-yard punt of the New England Patriots ranks second, while Randall Cunningham’s 91-yard punt of the 1989 Eagles ranks third.
Mann joins Larry Barnes of the 1957 San Francisco 49ers and Bob Waterfield of the 1947 Rams at No. 10 on the all-time list.
