Anthony Gordon scored his first goal for Barcelona as they maintained their perfect start to the LaLiga season with a regular 3-0 win Getafe.

Gordon had failed to score in his first seven games since joining Newcastle United, although he did go into Saturday’s game with four assists to his name after an impressive start to his career in Catalonia.

Having scored three goals for England during the long international break, Gordon broke his Barcelona duck with a deflected effort in the second minute.

Gabriel Jesus made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, and Jules Kounde ensured the scoreline reflected the hosts’ dominance when he slotted in from close range.

It’s now eight wins from eight for Barca, with the victory restoring their five-point lead over Atlético de Madrid at the top of the table.

Gordon broke the deadlock in fortuitous fashion when he let fly from the edge of the box after a fine run, his shot deflecting off the leg of a Getafe defender and leaving goalkeeper David Soria helpless.

Dani Olmo spurned the chance to make it 2-0 after a superb ball at Gordon’s far post, but Jesús’ second arrived, curling into the bottom left corner after Barcelona pressured Zaid Romero into losing possession.

Getafe rarely offered a threat, although Mojica fired just wide with an ambitious long-range shot, and the visitors had Soria to thank for keeping the deficit at two when he produced a fine save to deny Olmo.

But Soria could do nothing as Kounde timed his run perfectly to meet Yamal’s superb cross and turn the ball into the bottom right corner. That ended any lingering thoughts of a remarkable comeback, and Yamal could have made the score more emphatic at the end when he fired wide of Karim Adeyemi’s pull-back.
