The WNBA’s rebounding queen has two more records on her resume.
Angel Reese holds the record for most rebounds in a single game after collecting 26 in the Atlanta Dream’s 78-71 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday night, and she broke the league’s single-season record.
Reese surpassed the single-game record of 24 rebounds set by Hall of Famer Chamique Holdsclaw in 2003. And broke the season mark of 451 rebounds, which was set by A’ja Wilson in 2024. Reese has 458 rebounds in her first season with the Dream.
On a day where her shot wasn’t falling at Crypto.com Arena, Reese was absolutely dominant on the glass, grabbing 18 defensive rebounds and eight offensive rebounds. As a team, the Sparks had 32 boards to her 26.
“She’s obviously been outstanding lately,” Dream coach Karl Smesko said of Reese, who added 11 points and three steals. “She’s had steady progress throughout the season. You could see her every month, get a little more comfortable, and I think she’s really stepped up right now.”
Reese led the WNBA in rebounds per game in each of her three seasons in the league. Those are the three highest rebounding averages in league history; no other player averaged as many as 12 rebounds per game, and Reese topped her with 13.1 during her rookie season.
Year 3 is in one of the best stretches of her young career and arguably her best with Atlanta. She scored 21 points and added 10 rebounds in a win against the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday. Two days later, Reese had a perfect shooting game (9 of 9) against the Sparks, adding 10 rebounds and eight assists. On Saturday, she had 31 points, 14 rebounds and four steals in a win over the Phoenix Mercury, earning Associated Press Player of the Week honors.
Her record-breaking performance on Monday helped Dream complete a perfect journey.
Atlanta clinched a playoff berth for the fourth straight season over the weekend, and it will be Reese’s first trip to the postseason. She is also representing Team USA at the FIBA World Championship in September, her first appearance with the senior national team.
