Volkanovski starts to defend his
Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight title against Evloev at
UFC 333 on October 24. The Australian champion felt bad for his Russian counterpart after fans booed him at a press conference in September.
According to Alexander Volkanovski, he felt bad when UFC fans booed Movsar Evloev
Volkanovski and Evloev responded at a press conference in Los Angeles UFC 331 during fight week to promote their upcoming title run. Evloev was showered with cheers while the crowd cheered for Volkanovski throughout the press conference.
Volkanovski recently revealed that he felt bad when the crowd booed Evloev. While Volkanovski understands why Evloev’s fighting style may not appeal to some fans, he noted that the undefeated contender has paid the price. “The Big One” believes Evloev is long overdue for a title shot and has been held back by his lack of success in the UFC.
“(Evloev) took a long way to the title,” Volkanovski said on the “Precision” podcast. “He probably deserved it before, but yeah, that’s why I’m glad it’s happening. I almost feel sorry for the guy. Like, I’m weird. Even when we did the press conference, everyone was booing him; I feel bad. It’s meant to get in his head, and it’s going to get to me more than his bad to people, I think. We know how it can be, but I’m pretty easy to understand.
Evloev (20-0) has yet to record a finish in his 10-fight UFC tenure, prompting criticism from some fans. Despite this, Volkanovski has repeatedly called for a fight with his ex
M-1 Global champion and they will finally clash on October 24 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
