Drake Maverick, aka Rockstar Spud, has been away from WWE television for several years and has now updated his current status with the company.
Maverick was rehired by WWE in 2022, several months after being released by the promotion. Since his return, he’s taken on a behind-the-scenes role, which he confirmed to X that he’s currently working on after a fan asked about his whereabouts on social media.
“Hi, still working for WWE as a writer/producer. Actually at work today. I appreciate your very kind words. I can do it, but do it from the other side of the camera right now,” Maverick said.

Doubts about his WWE status may have arisen after Maverick recently returned to the ring, wrestling for the British promotion Progress Wrestling, which is now managed by former WWE stars Nikki Cross and Killian Dane. Maverick had two matches on September 12 and September 13, winning both nights against Dave Mastiff and Sha Samuels.
His return to the ring could lead to suggestions that he will also wrestle for WWE, or its partner promotion, TNA Wrestling, where one of its rising stars, Leon Slater has expressed interest in facing his compatriot. He named Maverick as one of his dream opponents when he held the X-Division Championship, as the WWE star helped him in his early years in the United States.
