The
Ultimate Fighting Championship The Hall of Famer has no problem with wrestling itself. What bothers him is how fighters use it to stall instead of doing damage or progressing towards submission attempts.
Chuck Liddell takes on a grueling wrestling match that never ends
During a recent live broadcast with N3on, Liddell was asked if there is a current fighter he doesn’t like watching. Instead of naming an active UFC fighter, the former champion highlighted a style that has become increasingly common in MMA.
“I don’t like guys trying to wrestle and hold,” Liddell said.
Liddell explained that his problem isn’t with wrestling, but with fighters who use wrestling primarily to restrain their opponent without actively seeking a finish.
“They’re not trying to quit. I don’t mind wrestling. I like wrestling,” Liddell added. “A good ground and pound? Great!”
Liddell also placed some responsibility on the fighter stuck in the bottom position, arguing that improving their ability to escape would help the problem.
“But guys just sitting around trying to win just holding a guy (I don’t like that),” Liddell said. “It’s the guy who’s at the bottom, that he’s not better at getting up, right? He’s causing some problems.”
