The magic have exercised their 2027/28 rookie squad options on the forward Tristan da Silva and a security guard Jace RichardsonJason Beede of The Orlando Sentinel reports (Link to Twitter). The team confirmed the news in a press release (Link to Twitter).
Da Silva and Richardson already had guaranteed contracts for the upcoming season; now their deals are guaranteed for the next two years. Da Silva’s fourth-year rookie option for 27/28 is worth roughly $6.14 million, while Richardson’s third-year option is worth about $3.28 million.
Da Silva, 25, has been a regular rotation player for the Magic since being drafted 18th overall in 2024. The German started 72 of his 151 regular-season games, averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 23.4 minutes per night while shooting .433/.357/.880.
Richardson, meanwhile, was drafted 25th overall out of Michigan in 2025 and made 54 appearances off the bench as a rookie, averaging 4.4 PPG, 1.2 RPG and 1.1 APG. The sophomore guard, who turned 21 last Friday, has deserved praise from teammates and the head coach Sean Sweeney for the growth he showed during the preseason and could earn a bigger role in year two.
Da Silva will be eligible for a rookie extension in 2027 and will become a restricted free agent in 2028 if he does not sign a new contract by then. Richardson’s contract includes a fourth year worth $5.91 million through the 2028/29 season, which Orlando has until Nov. 1, 2027.
We are tracking all decisions on the 2027/28 rookie options right here. Although they aren’t due until Nov. 2, a number of teams around the league are opting out of them before they play their first game of the season.
