Glasgow Warriors second rower Alex Samuel has agreed a new deal with his boyhood club and is now aiming for more Scotland caps.
The 23-year-old, who made his debut for the club in the 37-0 win Benetton in November 2022, so far he has made 58 appearances.
A product of the club’s academy, the 6’9 second rower captained Scotland U20s and made his first appearance at senior level against Portugal in November 2024.
He won more games in losses to USA and Tonga last November and came off the bench in Scotland’s 47-38 win Argentina in Nations Championship in July.
“It feels great,” Samuel said after the contract renewal.
“I’m looking forward to the coming years, and with the way the club is going, it was a pretty easy decision to stay.”
“Obviously I’ve been lucky enough to play a lot of games over the last year, which has certainly allowed me to continue to improve my game. The environment here is second to none as well, and it’s really put me in the best possible position for my own development.”
“It’s great fun coming to work every day with your mates, and guys you’ve grown up playing with. It makes everything so much easier and I feel like we’re really building something together here at Scotstoun.”
“I just want to keep improving and put my hand up for selection when I’m back to full fitness. Obviously I’d prefer to play for Scotland too, but first I’ve got to get back in the best possible shape for Glasgow and do my best for the club.”
Head coach Franco Smith added: “As a player and as a person, Alex has contributed a lot to our environment – he has a huge impact at the club and the way he goes about his job is a credit to both him and his family.
“He provides a physical edge both on and off the ball, regularly putting in the hard work to put his team in the best possible position.
“He also has a real drive and desire to improve and become the best version of himself that he can be, and he’s someone we believe will continue to get better and better.”
