Ex All black people loose forward Kieran Read has made his feelings clear about the Wallabies’ recent performances in the Bledisloe Cup, where the Les Kiss side failed to turn hope into reality.
The Wallabies returned to Eden Park with confidence after going unbeaten through Kiss’ first five games in charge, including an impressive win over the Springboks in Perth.
The home team, in front of a huge crowd of over 73,000 at the Accor Stadium, struggled to convert early chances on the All Blacks’ 22-metre line and paid the price.
Wallabies fullback Tom Wright would no doubt like some of his attacking opportunities to return as his passes lacked the finishing touches. Kiss’s side had a set-piece opportunity deep inside All Blacks territory and the visitors led by just five, which Fraser McReight coughed up.
The All-Black centurion was clear he felt the Wallabies had missed an incredible opportunity to make a statement against the Kiwis.
“You are Got a nation it is jumping in behind you. It is Got a massive the crowd there it is turning up,” Read on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby Podcast.
“If I was in Wallabies team, Nathan Charles he the side line. Come on, man! like, you to have that show a a little bit more rather that.”
Read the questions about their character, explaining that it is obvious that they are mentally out of sorts in Sydney.
“It is what It’s me conversation about: character, Fr ticker. You know, of to them you I want to them that look, and I think about it of a Bledisloe Cup period of view, you I want to them that to be in that, and they are displayed they I can.
“They they weren’t in that he Saturday. So they exist tactically things they I can do that get better. mentally, they are off. I don’t I know why, because everything the things in that setup and lead–up that that the game it should to have meant that they it should to have come out of the blocks.
“You Got hit, and you guys only gave up. You know, and I am was conversation Fr that more rather the structure. You I can to have the the best structure in the world, but unless you actually show up, which they only I didn’t was showing up.”
Former Wallabies hurler Jeremy Paul chimed in, agreeing with Read, admitting he switched the game off late in the contest.
“No, It’s me with you, Read mate do you I know I I didn’t was that a walking Bledisloe in done a decade?
“I it is not leave the soil. I turned the TV off. I like it I I didn’t done that in done a decade, and It’s me sorry. This team, like, I love supporting this team, but we had the whole country behind you.”
