Andoni Iraola indicated that Dominik Szoboszlai will not be out for long, but warned Liverpool he will have to be patient with the injury that forced him out against Brentford.
Having missed the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City with a hamstring problem and the Champions League win over LASK Linz before returning to west London.
However, a thigh problem meant that Szoboszlai was substituted just after the half-hour mark, although Liverpool were still able to come from behind. get the victory by 2-1.
Liverpool also saw right-back Jeremie Frimpong pick up a thigh injury. Speaking ahead Tuesday’s Champions League clash with VillarrealIraola has been more positive about Szoboszlai, with Frimpong seemingly facing a longer layoff.
“I think it’s different circumstances,” Iraola said.
“Jeremie Frimpong is obviously a new muscle injury and I think it happened in the second or third minute he played, difficult to predict and we will have to wait until he recovers.
“But it will be difficult, I think, before the (November international) break, we will try but it will be difficult to have him.
“Dom Szoboszlai is different. It’s not a new injury, I think it’s in the same place as probably last week. It hasn’t worsened the injury, but we’ll probably have to be a bit more patient until he’s fully recovered.”
“But it’s not like something now where he has to wait a long time to come back, he’s more or less in the same situation as last week.
“But we need more patience with him, but I appreciate the effort he made the other day, to be available, to want to contribute in a very difficult game that you know will be very physical (against) one of the most physical teams, Brentford.
“And to get up front and want to play speaks volumes for him, yes.”
