October 19: Manchester sports tech company Rezzil has raised $10m in new funding, with the Premier League extending its backing and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham joining a growing list of football investors.
The round also includes coach Phil Kenyon alongside existing investor Simba Investments, with Rezzil using the capital to expand into North America, build its consumer gaming business and nearly double its workforce.
Bellingham’s investment is part of a wider partnership with his family, under which Rezzil will provide technology for “future digital projects”. There is no confirmation that older brother Jude Bellingham has personally invested.
The company already counts Thierry Henry, Cesc Fàbregas, Vincent Kompany, Tyrone Mings and Michail Antonio among its sponsors.
The Premier League first took a stake in Rezzil in 2024 as part of a four-year partnership focused on augmented and virtual reality products using official league data. Their participation in the latest round deepens a relationship that began when Rezzil was still best known for virtual reality training.
This business has since expanded, with Rezzil’s 3D tools regularly used to recreate match situations for television analysis, including on the BBC’s Match of the Day.
The company describes this broader technology under the banner of “Motion Intelligence”: using player and ball movement data to create performance insights, broadcast graphics and interactive products.
Former Hawk-Eye and NBA executive Jake Loos will oversee North American expansion, while new offices have opened in London and Chicago. Rezzil expects its global workforce to grow from about 50 to 100 over the next 12 months.
The company says it’s investing heavily in mobile gaming and has “several” strategic partnerships in development ahead of a series of product launches soon.
“For more than a decade, Rezzil has been helping shape the future of sports through technology,” Colley said.
“This investment gives us the opportunity to scale this vision globally, working with the world’s leading teams, broadcasters, athletes and rights holders to unlock the next generation of sports.”
