Ieuan Evans’ tenure as British and Irish President Lions ends Wednesday after four years in the role.
The Welsh legend and World Rugby Hall of Famer was inducted in 2022 and says it has been a “tremendous privilege” to serve the organisation, both as a player and an administrator.
Evans toured three times as a player – in 1989, 1993 and 1997 – and was tour manager in Australia last year.
“It has been a huge privilege to serve as chairman of the British and Irish Lions. The Lions have played an extremely important role in my life, from the honor of representing the shirt as a player to helping to shape its future as chairman,” he said.
“I am incredibly proud of what has been achieved over the past four years, particularly the success of the 2025 Tour, the progress made towards the first Lions Women’s Tour and the strength of the organization as it looks forward to an exciting new chapter.
“I would like to thank my fellow board members, Lions CEO Ben Calveley and staff, players, coaches, partners and our incredible fans for their tremendous support.”
Ben Calveley, Chief Executive of The British & Irish Lions, added: “Ieuan has given an extraordinary amount to The British & Irish Lions over the years, both as a player and through his leadership as Chairman. His infectious passion for the Lions and understanding of what makes this organization so special has been evident throughout his time in the role.”
The British and Irish Lions will appoint an independent chairperson in due course, with a further announcement to be made once the recruitment process is complete.
