Top ranked UFC Bantamweight contender Farid Basharat was released from the UFC roster after his UFC contract was terminated.
Among the collected scalps were established talents such as Chris Gutierrez, Jean Matsumotoand Taylor Lapilus.
Bashara will be released soon after the end of the autumn season Contender series. Clearly, the UFC is embracing an “out with the old, in with the new” mentality … except Basharat is only 29 years old! He’s clearly a talented young fighter, but the promotion isn’t interested in how he develops from here on out.
The great knock against Basharat is that only one of his promotion wins came via stoppage. Despite the lack of finishes, I wouldn’t call Bashara a boring or uninteresting fighter. He is known for his high work rate and smooth transitions between striking and grappling, which has made for several back-and-forth battles filled with constant, technical action. Regardless, the UFC can’t claim to be the home of all the best fighters when they intentionally cut athletes who—according to their system! — is among the top ten in the world in the weight class.
