Amad Diallo has joined Lisandro Martínez to express his anger Manchester United’s Defeat 2-0 to Atlético de Madrid on Tuesday night.
Martínez made headlines after criticizing the club’s transfer policy following the Champions League setback at the Metropolitano.
And while it was not clear who Diallo’s outburst was aimed at, it is another sign that things are not going well at Old Trafford.
Alongside a photo of him in action against Atleti, Diallo wrote on Snapchat: “Damn shame, I’m speechless.”
Martínez highlights United’s director of football Wilcox
When he did, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Diallo echoed Martinez’s criticism of the club’s board and director of football Jason Wilcox.
Talking to Amazon Prime After the game, the Argentine defender said: “We had a fantastic season last season and now we expect more players from the top, more players to compete because many teams also bring many players.
“Atlético have an incredible team and they deserved to win today.
“I expect more (investment). 100%. I expect more from our technical director (Jason Wilcox).
“I have to be honest, as players we have to do more, but it’s also important when you make a strong team to be ready for tonight.
“Tonight it’s easy (to blame) the coach, easy to tell the players, but we have to look at other areas as well.”
United competed well against Atlético despite falling behind in the first minute when Diogo Dalot was caught out of position and Alex Baena crossed for Pablo Barrios to slot into the net.
Bryan Mbeumo wasted two excellent chances to equalise, but United’s challenge was effectively ended when Leny Yoro was dismissed after bringing down Jonathan David with the Canadian forward on goal.
Ademola Lookman made it 2-0 soon after.
Martinez was wrong, says former United striker Rooney
Martinez’s comments have divided opinion with many United fans feeling the centre-back was right to speak out. But former club striker Wayne Rooney felt the burst came at the wrong time.
Rooney said: “I don’t actually agree as I thought it was a good performance.
“It’s difficult because I always felt honest as a player, and you want to have your opinion, but I think maybe it’s gone too far – that should be up to the manager, and that should stay internal because the fans want to hear the players and they want to see them interested.
“Obviously he cares and wants the club to invest more money and more players and if they do I think he’ll be one of the door players if I’m honest with his performances.
“His performances haven’t been good enough, but I think he’s right in a way, about the club needing to invest more up the pitch and also in defence.
“I think it seems like it was a bit of an agenda for him because that doesn’t reflect the performance. I thought the performance was better.”
