The 49er defensive end ends Mykel Williams’ long road back to the field as last season’s torn ACL nears the finish line.
Williams is expected to be active for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, and it would mark his first time in the lineup since Week 9 of last season. The 2025 first-round pick said it’s “killing me” to watch the 49ers struggle to produce a consistent pass rush with Nick Bosa out early this season and that he’s looking to lose eventually.
“I’m going crazy losing his mind” Williams said, via Josh Dubow of the Associated Press. “I’m ready to go. I’m excited to play ball. I miss playing ball. It’s been almost a year since I played, so I want to get back on the field.”
Williams had 20 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble before the injury ended his rookie season. In addition to rehab work, he has spent his time away from the court getting leaner and improving in other ways to increase his explosiveness. Williams said “we’ll see on Sunday” if that had the desired effect, and the 49ers’ chances of going 5-0 will look much better if Williams hits the field.
