According to trusted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Lyon’s midfielder Houssem Aouar at a reduced price this summer. The Gunners have a longstanding interest in the player and failed with their offers for the 22-year-old last summer.

However, it is now clear that the midfielder has fallen out of favor with the Ligue 1 side and that Lyon would be open minded to accept as little as a loan deal with an obligation to buy, since it has not attracted any significant interest in this window.

North London rivals Tottenham have also been given the chance to fight for his signature, but for now they appear to be focused elsewhere, with a winger being the priority.

This gives Arsenal a free run on its main transfer destination from last summer.
