Former UFC champion Tyron Woodley made his professional boxing debut last Sunday night, losing an eight-round split against YouTube star, boxer Jake Paul (4-0, 3 KOs).
The fight was the headline of a Showtime pay-per-view event from Paul’s hometown of Cleveland.
For the first time in his short career, Paul faced adversity when he was rocked on lap four – and had to walk the entire distance. Paul finished his first three fights within two rounds.
After the loss, Woodley felt deprived of a victory and called for a rematch.
According to the MMA veteran, Paul agreed to an immediate rematch and is now trying to withdraw from the fight.
“He’s trying to get away from it,” Woodley told the MMA Hour. “He’s a coward. I call out to you: you are a coward.
“I am ready to be a man and honor my end of the deal [by getting a Jake Paul tattoo]. He made a new deal as he is the one who makes the bets. Now the bet exploded on your face. Let’s do it. I am ready and I will. If I have to get my own tattoo artist I think I’m sliding to LA let’s have a blast.
“But I have to see some paperwork because he and his manager are starting to get real [shady]. He told me in there, he said, ‘Tyron, I give you my word.’ That’s what [Paul representative] Nakisa [Bidarian] said to me: ‘Tyron, I give you my word.’ And he was solid – he never told me a thing and wasn’t solid about it. I have a lot of love for Nakisa. He said, ‘If you get the tattoo tonight, we’ll give you the rematch.’ And I said, ‘Bet. Let’s let it go. ‘”
