TOLEDO, OH – Forward Marcus Vela has reached an agreement with the Toledo Walleye for the 2021-22 season.

Vela ran for the Walleye during the 2019-20 season, appearing in 49 games with 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) and 31 penalty minutes. This included his first professional hat trick, which he collected in Reading on November 30, 2019. The 24-year-old played for Florida last year and appeared in 29 games with five goals, four assists and 27 penalty minutes. The earlier 2015 round seven draft of the San Jose Sharks helped the Everblades end the regular season with the best record in the league.

“Marcus brings versatility to our team. He has the ability to play up and down in the line-up, both in the center and on the wing. With his preparation and willingness to get better every day, Marcus creates added value away from the ice, ”said Walleye head coach Dan Watson. “He gained valuable experience last season in Florida and we look forward to working with him again.”

Before turning pro, Vela spent four years at the University of New Hampshire, where he was team captain for the 2018-19 season. The native Burnaby, BC, ran a total of 135 games for the Wildcats with 24 goals, 34 assists, 58 points and 112 penalty minutes. In the 2018/19 season he set a college record as a senior with 18 points (6 goals, 12 assists).
