Three Coaches That May very well be on the Sizzling Seat

Dave Hakstol – Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken currently ranks 28th in the NHL and 29th in points. While this isn’t nearly as bad as most expansion teams, it is a notch below expectations.

The Kraken’s pre-season playoff chances are slim, now they have a 1.3% chance of qualifying for the playoffs, according to Dave Hakstol was controversial from the start and the naysayers now have a lot more ammo.

The performances across the board were ugly. You have zero players in the top 75 in the rating. Philipp Grubauer is experiencing a catastrophic season, also for expansion standards.

Kraken’s management may want to make a change as their first head coach hasn’t brought them the results they were hoping for.

Dave Tippett – Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers are by no means out of the playoff race, but their recent slide has been worrying. They have great top 5 strikers and a solid defense group, but their lack of depth and goalkeeper up and down trends are trends that have been going on for a number of years.

All the talk is about Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but after these two, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Zach Hyman and Jesse Puljujarvi, the talent drops significantly.

No one in the bottom seven strikers is better than 0.50 points per game and no one except Zack Kassian is anywhere near.

It doesn’t look like Tippett will be fired anytime soon, but it’s something to watch out for if the Oilers continue to do worse than expected.

Rick Bowness – Dallas Stars

The Stars are currently a team in midfield and there are no signs that they will collapse completely or even become a contender. Similar to the Oilers but on a larger scale, the Stars have some great pieces up front, but after that it dries up quickly.

Joe Pavelski, Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz and Ryan Suter have had solid seasons. The problem is, Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are both under 0.50 points per game.

In connection with Radulov’s offensive disappearance and confusion on the net, the stars have not reacted positively to their head coach. Rick Bowness could soon find himself in the hot seat if luck in Dallas doesn’t turn.
