The Nigerian striker is building his goalscoring form ahead of the Rojiblancos’ league opener on 16.
Umar Sadiq scored a brace on Wednesday when Almeria beat La Liga club Real Betis 2-1 in a pre-season friendly.
The match took place at the Nuevo Mirador Stadium and it was Almeria’s sixth pre-season friendly as they prepared for the Segunda Division’s new season to begin.
Sadiq gave the Rojiblancos the lead in the 10th minute, but the lead was short-lived when Robert Gonzalez equalized seven minutes later from Real Betis.
After half an hour, the former Rangers and Roma striker restored Almeria’s lead with his second goal of the evening.
Efforts in the first half separated the two teams as Rubi’s men secured their fourth win in their sixth pre-season game.
The Nigerian striker was later substituted off in the second half and received a standing ovation when he left the pitch.
After the impressive results, Almeria is now turning its attention to the opening game of the Segunda Division for the 2021/22 season, with a trip to Cartagena FC planned for August 16.
Before heading to Cartagena, they will try to keep the Nigerian striker, who has four more years of contract with the club.
Sadiq moved to Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos last October but is said to have attracted the interest of several European clubs following his remarkable scoring record in his debut season.
The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in 40 league games – his best record in a league season – when the Rojiblancos narrowly missed promotion to La Liga.
They lost to Girona in the semi-finals of the play-offs, but Rayo Vallecano grabbed the only promotion ticket after beating Girona 3-2 in the play-off final.
