Left-footed defender Ryan Murray has signed a one-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche. The deal has an AAV of $ 2 million and is one-sided.
Murray is a midfielder with offensive advantages. In 2020-21, he scored 14 points in 48 games for rebuilding the New Jersey Devils. He was drafted to 2nd overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2012 and has not yet reached his full potential. At 27, Murray certainly still has a lot to give.
As Elliotte Friedman noted, “(Colorado is) a good place to chase a cup.” The question is whether Colorado will give Murray the runway he needs to be successful. With the exchange from Ryan Graves to the Devils, a seat opens up for him on the left.

Ryan Murray is not a prime offensive weapon as he was charged when he was drafted. However, he’s a solid defender who eats up minutes. He’ll likely play 18-20 minutes a night, mostly 5v5 for the Avalanche. With all the offensive star power of the Avs, including Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog and Cale Makar, this change of scenery bodes well for him.
