REPORT: Pelicans Seeking to Commerce Draft Picks for Ben Simmons

The Ben Simmons trading saga seems never to end, with a new team reportedly interested in the Philadelphia 76ers forward this week.

On Wednesday, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported on his podcast that the New Orleans Pelicans are interested in swapping draft picks for Simmons.

“I heard the Pelicans were discussing trading future first-round picks and pick swaps with the 76ers for Ben Simmons, League sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto said.

Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, who joined Scotto on the podcast, argued that the 76ers aren’t currently trying to trade Simmons for anything less than a star player. That could make a pelican trade in draft picks unlikely.

“You don’t have to move Ben just to move him and not waste a year in Embiid’s prime. They really believe that if they get Simmons to do anything less than they appreciate they will be sacrificing several years of Embiid’s heyday for not maximizing Simmons as a trading balance, ”Fischer said.

Simmons has yet to step on the field for Philadelphia this season. He reportedly no longer wants to play for the 76ers. However, when Simmons was playing, he was dominant.

Over four seasons in the NBA, Simmons was called up to three All-Star teams, one All-NBA team, and two All-Defensive teams, while averaging 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.7 for his career Assists scored per game.

During Simmon’s absence, the 76ers struggled to open the year, finishing seventh in the Eastern Conference with a record of 15-14. The Pelicans had started slowly and were working even harder than their potential trading partner as they finished second in the Western Conference with a 9-21 record.
