Reiss Nelson set for second spell away from Arsenal with Eredivise mortgage

Reiss Nelson joins Feyenoord on loan

Arsenal Academy graduate Reiss Nelson is on loan from the Emirates for the second time this season after the hale-end product secured a year in Rotterdam with Eredivisie giant Feyenoord after his loan switch for Amad Diallo from Manchester United collapsed due to an injury to the Ivorian starlet had suffered in training.

Nelson has been aware of Arsenal for a long time since his disappointing loan from Hoffenheim in 2018/19 and is now firmly in the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.

Hopefully another loan period will do a lot of good to the 21-year-old England youth international who has long been touted as one of the best products the academy has come through of his generation, including his lead over players like Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka.

Nelson is currently behind his former academy teammates as well as Nicolas Pépé, newcomers Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Martinelli for the offensive positions behind the central strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Folarin Balogun and Eddie Nketiah.

What the future holds at Arsenal

The truth is, nobody knows what the next step will be for Nelson. Much of this will surely be due to his loan period at De Kuip Stadium under school principal Arne Slot.

But Nelson will be forced to fight for his place while he’s here De club aan de Maas, with competition straight from the summer signing of Alireza Jahanbakhsh and the 22-year-old Colombian international Luis Sinisterra.

Nelson’s previous loan deal at Hoffenheim started well when he was under Julian Nagelsmann in the 2018/19 season, but his start quickly fizzled out for a combination of reasons including injuries and poor adaptation to life abroad.

However, Arsenal have felt it appropriate to extend his contract until 2023 before joining Feyenoord to protect his worth if they sell him next summer but should also give them an opportunity to reconsider his status at the club he take his chance in this term.
