WORCESTER, MA – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud ECHL (@ECHL) Subsidiary of the New York Islanders (@NYIslanders), and Railers HC General Manager and Head Coach David Cunniff today officially announced that the club would welcome newly signed defender Myles McGurty and forward Tyler Poulsen (@lilpoulsen).

Myles McGurty is entering his third professional season and his second assignment with the Railers. The 6-foot-1,201 pound defender was taken over by the Railers of Rapid City Rush on February 18, 2020. He played nine games for Worcester and scored two points (one goal, one assist). By the time Rush took over, McGurty had played 49 games – most from any player on the team – and recorded 19 points (one goal, 18 assists). The 26-year-old has collected 25 points (two goals, 23 assists) in 83 ECHL games. Before turning pro, the NJ native spent parts of five seasons at Dalhousie University in Halifax, playing 101 games and collecting 41 points (eight goals, 33 assists).

Tyler Poulsen is going into his third professional season and his second assignment with the Railers. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound forward was acquired by the Railers from Rapid City Rush on February 18, 2020. He played 10 games for Worcester and scored five points (four goals, one assist). Poulsen had played 46 games for the Rush before joining the Railers and recorded 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists). The native of Arvada, CO, finished fourth in Rapid City in his 2018/19 rookie year in his 2018-19 rookie year, scoring 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists) in 57 games. Before turning pro, the 27-year-old spent three seasons at the University of Alabama Huntsville, where he played 88 games and scored 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists).

“Myles and Tyler were two guys we won at the end of the 2019-20 season and who played a huge role on our team,” said Cunniff. “Myles is a tough right-handed man who has shown he is difficult to play and moves the puck well. Tyler has a knack for putting the puck in the back of the net and adds a lot of energy to our line-up. We are happy that both boys are joining our hockey club again. “

The Railers have now signed eight players for the 2021-22 season as Myles McGurty and Tyler Poulsen join Jordan Lavallee-Smotherman, Grant Jozefek, Nolan Vesey, Drew Callin, Ross Olsson and Liam Coughlin. All player commitments will be made available to you by Cintron World, with further announcements expected in the next few weeks.

The Worcester Railers are looking forward to welcoming the fans back to their home opener at the DCU Center on October 23, 2021 against the Maine Mariners.
