After an exciting couple of weeks in the heavyweight division, here are 10 potential heavyweight fights to whet your appetite …
- Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk
It’s the natural fight to fight now, as Fury beat Wilder once and for all and Usyk has become a real heavyweight power after defeating Anthony Joshua.
- Oleksandr Usyk versus Anthony Joshua II
Joshua quickly triggered his rematch clause and set the wheels in motion for a Usyk sequel, but few will be as happy to support him as they did the first time.
- Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua
It should have happened a long time ago and it may never be as important as it once could have been, but an all-British showdown between Fury and Joshua is arguably still the biggest heavyweight fight.
- Tyson Fury versus Dillian Whyte
This appears to be next on the agenda for Fury, the fight has been ordered by the WBC and, should it take place, will offer Whyte his long overdue shot.
- Oleksandr Usyk versus Joe Joyce
Usyk defeated Joyce when the couple boxed as amateurs in the World Series of Boxing, but Joyce and Usyk have improved a lot since then and the mix of styles would undoubtedly produce a fascinating professional fight.
- Deontay Wilder versus Andy Ruiz
While it’s not yet known if Wilder will ever be the same after his third encounter with Fury, a return against someone like Ruiz, when he’s good and ready, could be exactly the kind of fight the “bronze bomber” needs to fight to get back on track.
- Joe Joyce versus Tony Yoka
These two met in the 2016 Olympics final (one fight won by Yoka) and a professional rematch would be welcome at some point.
- Michael Hunter versus Filip Hrgovic
Hunter is the man no one really wants to fight and Hrgović is the top contender whose cap has yet to be set.
- Agit Kabayel versus Murat Gassiev
One for the European audience, a fight between Kabayel and Gassiev would be a much needed step for Kabayel, the former European champion, and also the first real heavyweight test for Gassiev.
- Luis Ortiz versus Frank Sanchez
How about if Cuban Frank Sánchez battles compatriot Luis Ortiz sometime in 2022, after just beating competitor Efe Ejagba? Ortiz, 13 years older than Sánchez, is not getting any younger and Sánchez has momentum.
