Preview Day 13: Girls’s Staff occasion set for an unmissable finale

After 12 days of exciting table tennis at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, it is time for the penultimate matchday, because the focus is mainly on the completion of the women’s team’s gold medal race.

On Wednesday, the first decision will be which team will be on the third step of the medal podium and which team will miss a medal when Germany, Hong Kong, China come to the table in an all-or-nothing affair at 11.00 a.m. local time.

Now that the dust has settled around the bronze medal, attention is turning to the all-important play-off for the gold medal when China meets Japan in a replay of the 2012 London final at 7.30pm.

Leaders China have never lost a women’s team game on the Olympic stage, while Japan are looking to win a dream title on home soil. The host nation will get their third medal on day 13, but what color will it be?
