For the past three weeks, Conor McGregor has limped around in a massive leg cast as he recovers from a gnarled broken leg in his UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier. And while it will be a long time before the Irish sports star can even think about getting active again, we can at least report that the big mummy wrap is gone and McGregor is now wearing a much more comfortable-looking boot that brings out some serious-looking ones Scars from his recent surgery.
McGregor broke his shin at the base of his leg at the ankle, causing doctors to insert a titanium bar all the way down from his knee to stabilize the break. There will be a lot of rehab going on in his future, but some doctors feel that “The Notorious” may return with an advantage now that he has serious metal grafted into his shin.
“It’s like having a tibia in a tibia,” orthopedic surgeon Chris Raynor said in a recent video. “When you think about it, it could be a secret weapon that McGregor has in his back pocket when he gets back. In my opinion, it will take a lot more heat in the future than what McGregor cooked at UFC 264 to damage that leg once he gets back to competition. “
There’s no timeline for McGregor’s return just yet, but he’s made it clear that he’s planning a comeback and regaining the UFC lightweight title. Whether he will be able to avoid trouble while waiting for the leg to catch up with the rest of his body is a big question. Mac is already making some pretty bad decisions on social media and recently tweeted that COVID-19 was “good” for killing the father of his rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. It really doesn’t get more classless.
