ONE Winter Warriors II outcomes: Kairat Akhmetov victorious

ONE Winter Warriors II results: Kairat Akhmetov wins Danny Kingad

If there were any doubts that Kairat Akhmetov was number one flyweight, he was cleared away at ONE: Winter Warriors II in Singapore on Friday. When the ONE Winter Warriors II results were added up, the Kazakhs scored a unanimous win over Danny Kingad in a fight he never really wanted to lose.

Akhmetov caught a body kick early in the first round and defeated Kingad. The Kazakh southpaw held him down until the bell rang.

In the second verse, Kingad looked for the takedown, but Akhmetov ducked under a Filipino’s wild right hand and took him down. The standout from Team Lakay worked his way up again, only to be dismantled immediately.

In the third round, Kingad had everything to do and he took the center of the cage. But the Filipino was soon thrown to the ground with a monopod, even though he worked his way up to stand again on the occasion.

Akhemtov clearly had a commanding lead in the scorecards at this point. Kingad knew he had to make a big impression. They clung to the cage and the Filipino hit a knee in the head, only to be taken down again without further ado.

The best of the rest

The fight ended with the Kazak in the lead, which left the judges with an easy decision. Akhmetov took the win, improved to 2-2 and possibly earned a title shot. Kingad fell back to 14-3.

Earlier that night, it took Kwon Won Il (11-3) less than two rounds to finish former bantamweight champion Kevin Belingon (20-9). A left hand on the liver did the damage to the Korean.

Stephen Loman got off to a good start to his ONE Championship career. He stopped Yusup Saadulaev with his left hand in the final stages of the opening round in their bantamweight bout.
