Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has his say on the significance of assists

Pogba enjoys a good start to the season

Paul Pogba started the season as a reborn man. After the disappointment at Euro2020, he returned to Manchester to see that his team had added 3 stars in the form of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo and, in turn, increased his level of performance accordingly.

This can also be seen in the statistics: The Frenchman has given the Red Devils an immense seven assists in four games, including four in the opening game of the season. By comparison, that’s already two more than he did in the entire 2020-21 Premier League season, and he seems to be thriving with his new teammates.

This, in turn, has led to reports that he will be turning around and renewing his contract (which expires this summer) with Manchester United, while previously widely expected to leave for free in 2022.

In a speech last night, Paul Pogba’s brother revealed:

It’s his choice – he feels very good at Man United now, this season … let’s see

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is downplaying the numbers

One man who has not been won over by Paul Pogba’s impressive assist record this season, at least not in public, is Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Before their trip against Young Boys in the Champions League, the United coach downplayed the importance of templates.

When asked about the impressive record, the Norwegian asked:

“What does an assist include? A square pass and Bruno hits the top corner or when Paul plays a great pass-through and Mason walks past? Paul has always been a top passer, one of the best in European football … I don’t count templates, it’s all social media. “

So while Pogba is leading his side, he’s obviously not getting carried away by the numbers.

Do you agree with the United boss?
