Callum Wilson’s stay in Newcastle

Newcastle would sign Callum Wilson of Bournemouth in September 2020 after Cherries were relegated to the championship.

It is believed that Wilson reimbursed the Magpies for a fee of around £ 20 million.

The 29-year-old has previously been a fairly consistent goalscorer for Bournemouth, hitting 67 goals and providing 30 assists during his time in the south.

And for Newcastle, although his first season was marred by an injury, Wilson was still able to score 12 goals and five assists in 26 league games.

Wilson’s goal for the coming season

And although he would miss a good chunk of the 2020-21 PL campaign, Wilson would still get a role in Over 3. to playapprox of Newcastle’s 46 Premier League goals last season.

So, Steve Bruce and Co. are no doubt hoping their number 9 will be fully fit for the entire season this time in the hopes that he will improve his already impressive goal record.

Wilson, meanwhile, has set his own goal for the 2021/22 season.

Speaking to Newcastle legend Alan Shearer for The Athletic recently, Wilson stated that his aim is to score 20 goals in the coming season and that he “doesn’t shy away from it”:

“Personally, 12 is not a number I wanted to be associated with as a striker. You want to be at least 15 or 20. It was frustrating to have injuries as I felt like I was on my way to a 20-goal season. With the options I had, I felt as clinical as I could be, although there are always some parts of your degree that you can brush up on.

“Some opportunities come to mind spontaneously. Brighton, second division game of the season, I had a header and should have scored. Months later, when I was injured, I kicked myself on my knees and thought, “That would have been an extra goal”.

“I am now working hard in preparation, I have a good deal of mileage and physicality behind me, I am becoming robust and only want to score 20 goals this season. I’m not afraid of that. “
