The former champions conceded one goal in every half to give his hosts the maximum number of points from the league game
The AFC Leopards’ problems in the FKF Premier League continued when they lost 2-1 to Nairobi City Stars on Tuesday.
Goals from Ezekiel Odera and Nicholas Kipkirui were enough to bring down the visitors who scored through Washington Munene.
Ingwe came into the game hoping to win to replace the three points the league and competition committee had deducted from their absence from last weekend’s Mashemeji derby against rivals Gor Mahia.
After the 13-time champions won the second leg with a single goal, they went into the game as favorites.
The hosts had other ideas, however, and that was evident from the way they started the game – trying to attack Ingwe at every opportunity they got.
But the game’s first chance came in the 22nd minute when Ingwe won a free kick just outside the danger zone.
Returning Marvin Nabwire was fouled and Elvis Rupia stepped up, but his free kick deflected off to a barren corner.
Stars broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. A good cross in the danger zone was made by the former Leopards striker Odera, who easily beat Benjamin Ochan in goal.
Two minutes later, the guests came close, but Nabwire’s shot hit the wood and the ball bounced to safety.
Despite increased attacks, it was the former champions who conceded a goal at half-time.
Leopards increased their pace after the break and were rewarded in the 63rd minute. Stars conceded a free kick and Munene stepped up, skillfully hitting the wall and watching the ball slide into the net.
But five minutes later, Ingwe was again behind, this time it was former Gor Mahia winger Kipkirui who put down a good run and put Ochan on the wrong foot.
The goal made for a tense final, but Stars held on to avenge the first-round loss.
