On Monday, the intensity in Olympic beach volleyball increased significantly when the competition hit with full force.

The round of 16 ended when April Ross and Alix Klineman started the morning with a straight set win against Cubans Lidiannis Echeverria and Leila Martinez.

The medal hopes of Jake Gibb and Tri Bourne were dashed in the last game of the evening when they fell against the Germans Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler.

In between, the USA women fought a five-set win against Italy and finished the pool game with a 4-1 record.

We also shot a bit of the Turkey-Russia women’s game and the beach quarter-finals between Brazilians Alison Cerutti and Alvaro Filho against Mexico’s Josue Gaxiola and Jose Rubio.
