A most worthy effort, but as a status recommendation; Valentin Baus, 25 years old, is listed in second place in men’s class 5; Ali Özturk, three years older, is currently in 6th place.

Conversely, the victory of the 46-year-old Mitar Palikuca against the 41-year-old Norwegian Tommy Urhaug was not necessarily to be expected. Mitar Palikuca is currently in 5th place in the order of earnings, Tommy Urhaug two places higher in 3rd place.

Both celebrated successes at the Paralympic Games, in the same class as in Tokyo, Mitar Palikuca won bronze in Rio de Janeiro in 2016; however, Tommy Urhaug had won gold in London four years earlier.

In Tokyo, Mitar Palikuca prevailed in five games (12-10, 7-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8).

“It was a very difficult match, I had trained hard; I’m really not sure why I won, I just hope I can keep playing well. It was important to play with control and focus. I’m happy, it was a good win for me; sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down. I have to add that everything is very good here. ”Mitar Palikuca

Valentin Baus, who had defeated the Egyptian Ayman Kamal Zenaty (11: 7, 11: 3, 11: 1) the day before, is now first in the group and thus in the main draw; Ali Ozturk will now face Ayman Kamal Zenaty to determine second place.

Meanwhile, Mitar Palikuca takes on the Argentine Mauro Depergola in the final group stage; on the opening day, Mauro Depergola was beaten by Tommy Urhaug (11-4, 11-7, 11-6).

Players who finish first and second in each group advance to the main round.
